"A magic show as part of the birthday party plan ... What a great idea!" Sure! The Robert K. Miller approach is, "Call me
first. Let's see what works best for you."

In the meantime, however, here are some helpful hints about children
and magic.
4th and 5th birthday party This is about the age when an awareness of
magic dawns. Children begin to realize what's possible and what's
impossible, and the impossible is magic. Remember?
The guest of honor will certainly like Joanne. Have you met Joanne?
She's my wood duck. She wears a top hat and "ducks" for alphabet
cards.
Your
child will wonder "How did the duck know which cards to pull out
while blindfolded, and how did she spell my name?"
6th through 8th birthday party These are the most popular ages
for
a magic show party. Memories from my show will last a
lifetime.
Unforgettable!

"The preschool and kindergarten children were talking about the
exciting program for the rest of the week. They laughed and were
amazed throughout the entire performance."

9th and 10th birthday party My program becomes more
sophisticated.
Much of the magic for this age group is the same as for mom and dad.
A close-up magic show with cards, coins and other small props also
works well here, particularly for boys.
Middle School Curiously, this is a very difficult age for
magic entertainment.
These youngsters often feel that they are too
old for a magic show ("magic is for little kids"). Not to
worry. In a few years, they'll come back. We all do!
By the way, here's a good guideline for choosing entertainment for
your own child: Try to go along with the young person's
request. If it's your idea, be careful. If your child wants a
magician, great.

Caution: Always consider what the youngster means by
"magician." It
may be impossible to meet television-based expectations. I do not fly
around, saw people in half, vanish in a flash of flame or pull birds
out of the air. What I do is to open the doorway to a fun
time.
There is also special magic for
more mature young people & family members.
Don't miss it!

"The show you put on was wonderful. It captivated the children's
attention and put smiles on their faces."

Wow! But what's it like?
Consider a 45-50 minute show with colorful and unusual props,
familiar characters, plus a succession of magical surprises one after
the other. The birthday child is the star. He or she helps with some
of the magic effects and even receives two special souvenirs. They
are created by magic, of course, during the program.
"This simple wood dowel was just sitting on E-Bay until I found it.
Now, they say it's the only one in the world -- a piece of
Pinocchio's nose. Yes! It was left over after Geppetto the
woodcarver made the puppet. But, is it real?" Through the guidance
of the guest of honor, the entire audience proves that it is!
(You will be astounded, too!)
Don't forget to have your still or video camera on hand for
this one!
